This beautiful wrap skirt is one size fits all. It is worn wrapped around the waist and secures with a tie, it is 22 in. long. The fabric for the skirt comes from traditional Guatemalan weavings. Almost all indigenous Guatemalan women wear a traditional skirt, or corte (kor-tay), made on a large loom controlled with both the feet and hands. These skirts often use a length of cloth more than 20 feet long, dropping to the ankles, but they are folded and wrapped around in such a way that they fit just right. A long woven belt, or faja (fa-ha), is wrapped around the waistline several times to secure the corte. Different regions dress in different colors and designs, with the common theme of brilliant color in each design. These skirts are still made on the traditional loom, by Guatemalans, right in the heart of the country, combining the rich cultural tradition with a universally wearable skirt. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to local schools in the heart of Guatemala from where these skirts are being loomed.
