The Coral Bead Bracelet is made of corals from West Africa by craftsmen of Nigerian communities. The coral beads are 1.5mm to 2mm in length and the elastic band makes it comfortable for all sizes. Coral is culturally significant demonstrating cultural initiation and integration into membership of the community. The bracelet is worn during marriage ceremonies and funeral rites in the Benin Kingdom of Nigeria alongside all white outfits. The use of coral jewelry started as far back as the 19th century, before the pre-independence period, for identification by other members of the community.
