This unique bracelet from Kenya is made of brass hand-casted coins, black cown horn and white cow bone rings. It has a hook eye closure.
Sammy has been beading and creating jewelry since childhood, when his mother taught him to make use of horn, cow, and camel bone to sell pieces to passing tourists in their scenic town. Based out of Nairobi, Kenya, Sammy has created a full jewelry collection which aims to achieve empowerment through creativity. He owns a small workshop in Ngong where he employs community members who participate in the beading work. They employ Kenyan men and women from marginalized communities who have talent but lack the necessary resources to change their lives. They help them break from the cycle of drug use, cattle rustling, robbery, and prostitution that exists in these communities which keeps them from reaching their full potential.
Sammy works with 100% recycled materials, including animal bone and brass and aluminum casting, which create the beads for his pieces. Bangles, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and rings are crafted carefully from these materials to make beautiful, unique pieces. 100% of the profits are reinvested in the artisans’ workshop which provide employment and skills training.
